Six men have been arrested in the west of Pretoria for burning electricity cables.
According to community activist Johan Cloete, the men were caught around 20:00 after he received a call from Prasa security guards.
“I informed the necessary people who then assisted in the arrest of these people,” he said.
Following his call to Telkom, Hardus Myburgh of Combined Private Investigators was informed, Cloete said.
“Hardus immediately went to the scene where he caught the men,” he said.
“We are still not sure where exactly the cables they were burning came from.”

Cloete said a case was opened at the Hercules police station.
Another case of cable theft on Wednesday in Hercules left residents without power for hours.
Local ward councillor Elma Nel said the cables were stolen from the Hercules substation.
“Luckily, this only affected a handful of residents,” she said.
Hercules police were yet to comment on the matter at the time of going to print.
