Vusi Khekhe Mathibela, branded “Number 1 Tsotsi of Mamelodi” by police minister Bheki Cele, abandoned his bail application on Monday.
Instead, together with his lawyers, they will be approaching the North Gauteng High Court to challenge his arrest and continued detention.
This comes after he briefly appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court together with his two co-accused, Elias Skhosana and Stemmer Monageng.
The three men are charged with intimidation, extortion and assault.

Mathibela, also known as “Vusi Khekhe”, handed himself over to the police in Germiston last week Tuesday night.
This comes after the police in Mamelodi East had obtained a warrant for Mathibela’s arrest following cases of extortion, intimidation and assault levelled against him.
Mathibela is alleged to have been part of a group “terrorising” the community of Mamelodi over a period of time.
Mathibela is to appear again on Friday at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Before he handed himself over at the Germiston police station, Mathibela was already out on bail of R50 000 for the murder of North West businessman Wandile Bozwana.
Mathibela remained in police custody.
