A man has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates court for driving under the influence after he hit a well-known car guard in the west of Pretoria.
The charges were changed to culpable homicide after the victim, Johan Erasmus, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
The accident happened in front of Van Der Stel Pub And Grill Bikers Bar in Elsa Street on Saturday between 19:00 and 19:30, said one of the owners Estelle du Toit.

Du Toit said the man was arrested on the scene and Erasmus was taken to hospital for further treatment.
“His life support machines were switched off at the hospital on Sunday,” she said.
Du Toit said Erasmus was a well-known parking attendant in the area.

“He always took good care of our clients’ vehicles and some even let him wash their cars,” she said.
“His death is a tremendous loss to our community and we will miss him dearly.”
Police spokesperson Captain Bongikosi Msimango said a case of culpable homicide was being investigated by the police.
