UPDATE: Man in court again for Centurion stabbing

A 26-year-old man is accused of stabbing to death a resident of Eldoraigne in full view of his neighbours.

A 26-year-old man, who allegedly stabbed a Centurion resident to death in his Eldoraigne home, will appear in court next week.

The man will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Tuesday for a formal bail application, according to Wierdabrug spokesperson Captain Cornelius Masalesa.

He is accused of murdering Herman Scholtz (59).

Masalesa said the accused appeared on a previous occasion shortly after his arrest, but the case was postponed.

Scholtz died after sustaining multiple stab wounds following the attack.

According to his brother Hein Scholtz, the 59-year-old was stabbed several times in the chest in full view of one of the neighbours, who came rushing to his aid.

“Unfortunately, the neighbour could not open the security gate to the apartment so could only stand by and watch as my brother was stabbed,” he previously told Rekord.

A private security company and the Wierdabrug police later arrived after being alerted by neighbours.

“They forced their way into the apartment and managed to apprehend the assailant. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.”

A memorial service for Scholtz took place at the Ewige Lig church in Montana Park two weeks ago.

Hundreds of mourners turned up to pay tribute.
