The Lyttelton police have arrested two suspects believed to be behind a series of motor vehicle thefts in the area.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the two were arrested on Tuesday afternoon in the Lyttelton Manor area, a known vehicle-related crime hotspot.
“During a patrol, the officer noticed a suspicious Toyota Etios Cross with two male occupants,” said Miller.

“Upon further inspection, it was discovered the vehicle had in fact been stolen in Pretoria Central earlier this year.”
The two were found to have unlawful “high-tech” jamming equipment together with several tools and instruments used to override vehicle security systems in their possession.
“We suspect these tools were being used to steal cars in the area,” said Miller.
He said the two face charges of possessions of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, car break-in equipment and unlawful jamming devices.
“They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court within the next 48 hours. We are also investigating the possibility of linking them to several car thefts in the area.”
Station commander Martha Mokobori praised the police for “working tirelessly for the past few months in order to make a breakthrough regarding these vehicle thefts”.
