More than 44 people were arrested in the Tshwane west policing cluster during a “massive” multi-disciplinary operation.
Police spokesperson Constable Simon Chokoe said the arrests were made on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning during operation O Kae Molao in Pretoria West, Atteridgeville, Laudium and Erasmia.

“This massive integrated and intelligence driven operation consisted of two phases and led to more than 44 suspects being arrested and goods being confiscated,” he said.

“Fines were also issued for the contravening of the road traffic act and vehicles were impounded for enquiry.”
Chokoe said 24 people wanted for serious and violent crimes were traced and arrested during phase one of the operation.
Another twenty people were arrested during phase two of the operation, which was conducted in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies.
“During a roadblock held, 1721 vehicles and 939 people were searched,” he said.
“Vehicles were also tested for roadworthiness.”

Chokoe said 187 traffic fines were issued to the value of R511 100, five vehicles were impounded.
He said during the operation, seven houses were searched.
“Upon searching, 11 suspects were arrested for being illegal immigrants and one suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property,” he said.
During the operation, more than 25 liquor outlets were visited.
“Police confiscated 70 packets of illegal cigarettes, one gambling machine was seized and fines were issued to the value of R500,” he said.
“Five illegal liquor outlets were closed and fines were issued to the value of R4500.”
Chokoe said approximately R510 000, worth of liquor was seized and two people were arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence.
“Operation O Kae Molao will continue in various parts of the Tshwane district to create a safer community,” he said.
The arrested suspects will appear in various Magistrate’s courts soon.
