Another man shot dead in Sunnyside

According to sources, the murder may have been a hit.

Another man was shot dead in Sunnyside on Monday in what was suspected to be the latest in a spate of gang-related shootings in the area, police said.

A case of murder was opened, according to police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela.

The shooting came after several shooting incidents in the area over the past few months and was believed to be related to gang violence, which has been happening for a number of years in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Last month, a man was gunned down in the streets of Sunnyside by unknown assailants.

The victim (44) was attacked by two men on Troye Street shortly after he had dropped off his brother, Mavimbela said at the time.

“Reports suggest the suspects had been trailing the victim in a white VW Polo prior to the shooting.”

Sunnyside police at the time said the motive behind the shooting was unknown.

According to a source, the shooting was more like a “hit”.

No arrests have been made.
