Maragon’s ice princess shines at nationals

Taytum started figure skating lessons two years ago and currently trains six days a week.

Eight-year-old Taytum Skylar Rosseau from Maragon Olympus is the current South African national champion for figure skating in the under-10 age category.

She officially obtained her Gauteng provincial colours for figure skating the night before her 8th birthday. Taytum proceeded to represent Gauteng North at the national figure skating championships in the Western Cape from 2-4 April 2019, where she obtained a 1st place in her very first national championships.

Taytum started figure skating lessons two years ago and currently trains six days a week (about 8-10 hours a week), early mornings before school as well as on Saturday mornings with her coach, Susan Marais. She is a very determined young athlete and continues to set her goals higher, as she dreams of someday competing at the world championships. Her skating role models are Alexandra Trusova and Gia Kokotakis, both young international figure skating champions.

Her hobbies include singing, reading and dramatic arts.

Taytum believes you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you work hard and stay committed. She wants to inspire other young girls to follow their passion and believe in themselves. The possibilities are endless for this young athlete.

Watch out world!
