Lyttelton police call on residents to collect firearm licences

Some residents had reportedly waited years for their licences.

The Lyttelton police have called on residents who applied for firearm licences to collect them.

A backlog in issuing licences has resulted in residents not collecting them, according to police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.

Anyone who applied for a licence more than three months ago has been urged to collect.

Some residents had reportedly waited years for their licences.

“We are calling on members of the public who applied for their licences at the Lyttelton station to visit the station on weekdays between 09:00 and 14:00,” said Miller.

“Residents are requested to visit the firearm licence department within the station to enquire about the status of their licence.

“Our members at the station are waiting to assist you with acquiring your firearm licence.”

Miller urged applicants to bring along their identification documents.

“If residents are able to produce the proof of payment for their licence it will definitely make the process easier.”
