Winterveldt residents have complained about street lights that have been left on 24 hours a day, saying it is the reason they are now dysfunctional.
The Mhlaumbe residents told Rekord that the street lights in many sections have been out of order for more than a year.
They say they are unhappy with the poor service delivery in their area.

Resident Kgothatso Lekala said they had laid their complaints and grievances before their ward councillor, but have yet to receive feedback.
“Our streets lights are giving us problems. Criminals have the opportunity to commit crime because it is always dark at night,” said Lekala.
Secretary for the street committee, William Modimong, said the ward councillor failed to assist them when they approached him.
“We did engage with the councillor about the problem but he did not help. So we took a pledge to go to the municipal office so that we can engage them to help us fix the lights, especially near busy areas such as intersections where commuters get mugged on their way from work,” said Modimong.

They also told Rekord that since the winter season was approaching, they feared for their lives.
Another resident, Nonhlanhla Mosina, said: “I have to attend church services from Friday until Monday. Most of the time, we come back late and we are forced to watch our backs.”
Ward 19 councillor, Mfanafuthi Hlatshwayo said: “I am aware of the issue of the street lights and I have reported the matter to the municipality. They said they would come and fix them.”
