Security has been beefed up in Muckleneuk, east of Pretoria, following the killing of three homeless men in recent weeks.
Ward councillor Anru Meyer said the first body was found in a veld near the Mears Park train station more than two weeks ago, the second in Magnolia Park on 8 June and a third the next day.
Meyer said the local CPF, private security companies and police would step up their efforts to safeguard the area.
“We will also ask the metro police to be more reactive,” said Meyer.

Meyer said the area has never had problems with “major” crimes such as murder.
He said most of the crimes in the area were petty such as theft of and out of motor vehicles.
Meyer said he was pleased with the efforts of law enforcement to ensure justice prevailed.
“The homeless too deserve justice and the police have made that their priority,” he said.
Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the police had started campaigns to raise the awareness of safety among the homeless.
“We also patrol the area regularly,” he said.

Mavimbela said the victims appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma and multiple stab wounds to the upper body.
He said the identities of the deceased and the motive for their murder remained unknown.
“Sunnyside police have launched a manhunt.”
