Tshwane metro rubbishes reports of electricity tariff hikes

The metro has refuted the ongoing reports that it will rip-off residents by charging exorbitant electricity rates.

The metro has refuted the ongoing reports that it will rip-off residents by charging them exorbitant electricity rates.

Utility services MMC Abel Tau said they had noted “the concerning inaccurate information claiming that Tshwane’s customers are going to see electricity tariffs increase in excess to what Nersa guidelines provided for, 13.07%.”

“The published unsubstantiated increases are misleading and this is worrying,” said Tau.

“For the record, the city’s rates are computed and guided by Nersa Tariffs Guidelines which we received on the 27 May 2019.”

“The fact is, the city has moved away from 4 Block Tariffs to 2 Block tariffs of 0-650 kWh and above 650kWh,” said Tau.

Tau said the average increase was 13.07%.

Tau said the current administration was thrilled that the recent city budget was well received by all political parties.
