Police arrest 47 for various crimes in CBD

The crimes include theft, malicious damage to property, common robberies, fraud, possession of drugs, drunk driving, assault to do grievous bodily harm and corruption.

Pretoria Central police continued to intensify their visibility over the weekend, making a total of 47 arrests.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 55, were arrested for various crimes committed within the CBD and surrounding areas, said police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.

The crimes include theft, malicious damage to property, common robberies, fraud, possession of drugs, drunk driving, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and corruption. Various fines were issued.

Other arrests included four male suspects, between the ages of 24 and 46, found in possession of a stolen laptop, Selepe said

“This comes after police spotted them while doing stop-and-searches,” she said.

“The laptop had been reported stolen.

“A case of theft out of motor vehicle was opened a day before, not far from the roadblock.”

Selepe said theft out of motor vehicle and common robberies remained a major concern within the city.
