VIDEO: Life of Moot ‘warrior’ celebrated

My daughter was definitely someone to look up to – a true inspiration.

Family and friends came together this past Friday to celebrate the life of Leanie du Toit, who recently died from cancer.

The service took place at Pinedew guest house in Kameeldrift East.

“Leanie’s life should be celebrated because she finished her journey and did not lose it,” said her mother, Tina.

The funeral was held with a different twist, Tina explained.

“Instead of mourning her life, we decided to celebrate it – which is why the setting was different than most funerals,” she said.

“My daughter was definitely someone to look up to – a true inspiration.”

She described her daughter, who was 39, as being a “ray of sunshine”.

“My daughter has touched so many lives and has motivated so many people with her story,” she said.

“Which is why I’ve always called her my ‘sunshine-child’.”

Du Toit died on Saturday night at 20:00.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.

After her diagnosis, she went into remission in 2012 but the cancer returned and she had to undergo multiple surgeries in 2013 and 2014.

Twenty-one days prior to her death, she was admitted to hospital.

She stopped her chemotherapy earlier this year on doctor’s advice.

“I think she just grew tired and it was her time to leave us,” her mother said.

“She also finished her work for God on earth.”
