Stream still concerns west residents

The stream that runs through Proclamation Hill drives residents up the wall.

A west of Pretoria resident has found an interesting way of finding out what the cause of the problems in his area is.

“I use my drone to see scout for problems,” said resident Frik de Bruin.

“Through the drone, one can see what the problem is and if corrected and the problem persists, then one knows that the problem runs deeper and I can keep investigating.”

“This way I have been able to uncover a lot of causes to the problems.”

De Bruin said he also has a Youtube channel, where people can watch the footage he recorded.

He said he uncovered the cause of the problems around the stream runs through a large portion of Proclamation Hill.

Local Ziyad Layte said residents complained of a strong smell of sewage from the stream.

De Bruin explained that the cause was a sewage leak in Maunde Street near Atteridgeville.

“Then the sewage comes down with the storm water channels and ends up in the stream,” he said.

He said though he reported the “minor problems” to the municipality, “I want to solve the bigger ones”.

“I try to look at the bigger picture,” he said.

Acting ward councillor for the area, pastor James Ndlovu said he was not aware of the issue.

“I asked that residents inform me of municipal issues, but no one has informed me of the stream,” he said.
