Community helps to uplift Eldoraigne library

“This has been three year initiative.”

A group of Eldoraigne High School matric learners has started painting a mural on the wall of a local library as a contribution to spruce it up.

The learners, all of whom are in the arts and culture class taught by Sunette Pearce, started preparations to paint the wall on Wednesday afternoon.

The design, by Pearce, highlights mathematics, science and technology.

The mural will be painted on one of the bare interior walls to tie in with previous initiatives by the nearby Sutherland High School who also painted one.

Last week locals donated to the sprucing up of the library garden.

“We had received a donation of stones which we placed in the garden,” said local ward councillor Cindy Billson.

“Everything we have used to improve the library, from the plants to the paint, has been sponsored by the community.”

“It is part of an initiative that has stretched over the past three years.”

She said, for this reason, the project has taken some time but the library looked much better than it previously did.

“We want to challenge more schools in the area to come and assist us in uplifting the library,” said Bilson.

“I would also like to request any sculptors in the area to assist us with some artwork which we can place in the garden.”
