Rooihuiskraal mini-sub an accident waiting to happen – resident

“The metro dug up the ground around the mini-sub when we were experiencing intermittent power outages in the area.”

A Rooihuiskraal resident has voiced concern over exposed cables around a mini-substation in his street in the Robin Place.

Alan Botha said around three weeks ago, the ground around the substation was excavated.

“We had been experiencing intermittent power outages when the metro dug up the area around the mini-sub,” Botha said.

“The power outages continued until the power of a nearby unoccupied house was turned off completely.

“However, it appeared no effort has been made to cover the excavation, leaving live electric cables exposed.

“Many people in our street have children who often play outside,” Botha said.

“This is a serious safety risk for the kids who can get hurt if they touch these cables.”

Botha said he had notified local ward councillor Casper McDonald of the situation.

Last Tuesday, McDonald told Rekord the maintenance of the mini-sub would be completed within a few hours but a week later the situation remained unchanged.

“I have once again brought the situation to the attention of the local regional director,” said McDonald.

“The hope is that it will receive the necessary attention as soon as possible.
