UPDATE: Abandoned Centurion puppies remain at SPCA

“We are monitoring their health very closely and will inform the public as soon as they are ready to be adopted.”

Seven puppies, found abandoned in a box in Centurion two weeks ago, have yet to be claimed from the local SPCA.

The puppies, which had been left in a box in Uitsig Road with no water or food, were doing well, according to Centurion SPCA manager Christina Masemola.

“Unfortunately, no one has come to claim them yet,” said Masemola.

“Sadly, no one came forward with details on who might have abandoned the dogs.

“We are monitoring their health very closely and will inform the public as soon as they are ready to be adopted.”

A concerned resident had contacted the SPCA to rescue the puppies after she noticed them on the side of the road.

Last week, the Centurion SPCA reported it had noticed an increase in abandoned animals in the area.

“Abandoning animals is an offence in terms of the animals protection act,” Masemola said.

“This includes any circumstance, permanent or otherwise, which is likely to cause the animal unnecessary suffering.

“We are all saddened by the increase in cases where animals in Centurion are being abandoned on the roadside.”

She said the act was “totally unacceptable and unnecessary”.

“There is someone on the SPCA property at all hours of the day to admit any stray or surrendered animals,” she said.
