West husband confirmed as possible kidney donor for wife

The family hopes that Angelique Seymour van Tonder will receive a kidney transplant before Christimas.

A Pretoria West woman born without kidneys received good news this week when medical tests confirmed that her husband could be a possible donor.

Mountain View resident Angelique Seymour van Tonder is now one step closer to getting a kidney transplant.

“Nico [her husband] had to undergo a set of tests to see if he could be a likely donor for Angelique,” said family spokesperson Arnél Mulder.

“These tests all came back positive. Now we are just waiting for Angelique’s test results.

“If everything goes according to plan, we believe the transplant will happen before Christmas,” she said.

Mulder said Angelique was admitted to hospital on Saturday, complaining of abdominal pain.

“It hurt so bad she couldn’t even put pressure on her leg,” said Mulder.

She was however discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

Angelique was born in 1999, without kidneys.

The couple recently celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary. They got married in July last year.

“This good news came at just the right time close to their wedding anniversary,” said Mulder.

Angelique told Rekord that if she gets the transplant, she could “live like a normal girl”.

“I hope everything works out for the best,” she said.
