The Soshanguve police have warned residents to beware of criminals when visiting local graveyards.
Three men fell victim to armed robbers on Sunday when four men robbed them of their cellphones at gunpoint at the Soshanguve block Y cemetery.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said the three men were ambushed as they prepared for an upcoming burial.
“The incident took place around 06:00, however, the community managed to catch one of the suspects while others escaped,” Maluleka said.

The police warned the community of Soshanguve who visited the block Y cemetery to be more vigilant.
“We have observed that the graveyard has now become a hunting ground for criminals who rob people of their belongings. We urge all residents to always be on high alert while visiting the graveyard for different reasons,” said Maluleka.
“We would like to further encourage residents to visit the graveyard during the day not at dawn or dusk to avoid being victimised by these criminals,” he said.
Maluleka also called on pedestrians who used the cemetery as a “short cut” to be on high alert or use alternative routes for their safety.
