A 24-year-old singer and songwriter Mamello Ngoepe is heading to the top after releasing her first single.
“Mellow”, as she is commonly known, released a song titled Ashole in June this year, a move which has seen her gracing various radio stations.
The song was produced by bigshot R&B muso and producer, Afrotraction, who is a self-taught pianist and bassist singing in Siswati.
“Afrotraction believed in me and he gave me a chance, he is also my mentor,” said Ngoepe.

“We sang a capella, so everything had to be perfect, and that really taught me a lot,” she said.
After completing her matric in Limpopo she moved to the capital city and enrolled at the University of Pretoria where she is a third-year mathematical statistics student.
She said the move exposed her to more opportunities, including the freedom to express herself.

“I started singing at restaurants that’s how much passion I had,” she said.
She then became part of a musical where her magical voice charmed the production team who then advised her to pursue a career in music.

With just the right amount of passion, it was only a matter of time before her sister introduced her to Afrotration who kick-started her journey.
“I love singing. It’s what I want to do forever,” she said.
“It is not easy, but I put in a lot of hard work.”
She said her greatest influence came from her family who were also passionate about music.
“My father studied music in London,” she said.
“Harmonising melodies in the house is such a natural thing, we all sing together.”

She described her music as a “mellow” fusion of African languages and instruments with a message and was often compared to Afro-jazz music sensation, Judith Sephuma.
“No artist wants to be compared to another, but being compared to someone of quality such as Judith Sephuma is an honour,” she said.
She will be performing her EP on different radio stations and hopes to receive love from the audience.
“The key to remaining relevant is being true to yourself. You will forever be timeless.”
Her single is available on iTunes.
