Devoted east teen dances to gold in New York
This passionate dancer made her mark in the US recently.
A devoted 18-year-old dancer from Hoërskool Garsfontein in the east of Pretoria recently did brilliantly at the Talent America dance competition in New York.
Saskia Wright is a talented tap, tap duet, modern dance and contemporary dancer who walked away with three gold and one silver medal during her 10-day experience abroad.
“She has been a very dedicated dancer for the past 15 years,” says Saskia’s mother Tania.

“In March this year, she qualified at the provincial level for all four dance categories at the Talent Africa competition. With that, she competed at the national level and after receiving gold for all four categories, she travelled to New York to compete in the Talent America competition with her Talent Africa team in the June/July school holidays.”
Tania told Rekord that Saskia’s family was very proud of her as she received three call-backs from dance photographers, a talent scout and a dance group.
In her free time, Saskia enjoys drawing and reading, she also appreciates her biology and computer classes at school.
She dreams of one day becoming an occupational therapist and having her own dance studio to help children achieve their dreams through her work and dancing.

“Saskia loves performing and expressing herself through dance, but she understands the sacrifices that go with it and the injuries that go along with dancing so much can take a toll on her body,” Tania says.
Saskia plans on finishing school and also attending university. After that, she would like to travel overseas and get involved with different dance schools.
