UPDATE: Still no arrest in Centurion cyclist hit-and-run death four months later

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela confirmed no arrest had yet been made.

The police are yet to locate the suspect in the hit-and-run death of a Centurion cyclist four months ago.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela confirmed this week that they were still searching for the motorist who ploughed into a group of cyclists on the R55 road in April, claiming the life of Andrew Randall.

“The matter is still under investigation,” he said.

Randall and 17 other cyclists were training on the R56 around 05:30 on Friday, 19 April when they were struck by a white Toyota Tazz.

He was declared dead on the scene while five others – including the passenger in the Tazz – sustained moderate to serious injuries.

Makhubela said the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot.

Randall was laid to rest after a memorial service at the Doringkloof family church in Centurion in April.

Back then, the police said they were looking into “positive leads” but could not provide more information for fear of jeopardising the investigation.

The police said they were investigating cases of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving, but “the charges may change once an arrest has been made”.
