UPDATE: Bucket blocked Iscor reservoir

"It is suspected that vagrants were using this bucket, attached to a rope sling, to draw water from one of the reservoir’s access chambers."

Tshwane metro technicians have managed to remove a 20-litre bucket which blocked the Iscor reservoir outlet in the west of Pretoria.

The blockage resulted in the system failing to build up pressure in the main water supply pipeline.

“It is suspected that vagrants at the field adjacent to the reservoir were using the bucket, attached to a rope sling, to draw water from one of the reservoir’s access chambers just above the outlet chamber,” said spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

“The culprits also cut off the spindles and steel covers for scrap metal value.”

Mashigo said the reservoir was currently being filled at maximum flow rate and with the obstruction now removed, the pressure in the system is expected to stabilise.

“This, provided there are no hiccups such as leakages and/or burst pipes in the next 24 hours,” he said.

“Residents are urged to use water sparingly and limit consumption to household use only.”

He said watering gardens, washing cars and filling swimming pools is discouraged at this point.

“Residents will be kept abreast on developments; however, the metro will continue to supply tankers for water provisioning in the affected areas until the situation normalises,” he said.
