North police warn community of new crime trends

This new modus operandi is directed at student boarders around Soshanguve and Ga-Rankuwa.

Police are worried about a new crime trend in which groups of men rob students at their homes around Soshanguve and Ga-Rankuwa.

“Three or four men would enter the yard where the students are staying,” said Captain Matthews Nkaodi.

“They would knock on the windows and when the victim opens the curtain, they would rob them of their belongings at gunpoint.”

He said the robbers would then leave unnoticed since they intimidated their victims into not making any noise.

Nkaodi said police believed that this modus operandi is spreading to other areas as well.

“We are therefore requesting landlords to improve security for the safety of their tenants,” he said.

In the meantime, the police in Ga-Rankuwa are on the lookout for a number of motor vehicles believed to be in the area.

He said there are three to four suspects with firearms who robbed unsuspecting victims.

“A Toyota Corolla and White Audi A4 were involved in robberies while a White Polo Vivo will give the victim a lift, later pretend that the vehicle is having mechanical problem, ask the victim to push it then flee with their belongings,” he said.

Nkaodi added that all of these vehicles are using fake number plates.
