Metro calls for sensible use of water ahead of spring
The Tshwane metro would like to remind residents and the business community that water restrictions in the city still apply.

With spring around the corner, residents have been urged to continue using water sparingly.
Tshwane metro reminded residents and the business community that water restrictions in the city were still in effect.
“The restrictions are applicable throughout the seven regions of Tshwane and they will help to ensure the control and provision of water supply to all residents,” the metro said in a statement.
On Thursday, the utility services department reported low pressure in the Rooihuiskraal water network.
“This concerning state is brought upon by increased water consumption in the suburb. Residents in and around this suburb are urged to refrain from watering the garden and washing cars in order to allow the network to stabilise. If this call is heeded, water-related interruptions will be minimised,” the metro said.

The following hints were provided and still applicable in terms of the partial restrictions the metro announced in May last year:
- Use greywater for watering gardens and flushing toilets
- Report water leaks and burst pipes
- Install water-saving devices
- Where possible, install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern
- Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden
- Water gardens before 06:00 or after 18:00 and only when necessary
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe to clean driveways or patios
- Collect rainwater for re-use in the garden or for washing the car
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce evaporation
- Take a quick shower rather than a bath
- Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
“Residents are urged to remain aware of the scarcity of water and to make saving water part of their lifestyle by following the above-mentioned tips.”
