UPDATE: Still no trace of kidnapped Amy’Leigh de Jager as learners undergo counseling

“Some parents took their children home [and] a parents meeting is scheduled for later today to allay fears.”

A psycho-social unit was sent to Kollegepark primary school in Vanderbijlpark today to provide counseling to all affected by the kidnapping of six-year-old Amy’Leigh de Jager.

This according to Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi who expressed his shock over the kidnapping.

“Some parents took their children home [and] a parents meeting is scheduled for later today to allay fears,” Lesufi said.

“We call on members of the public not to disrupt our schools and instill fear in children.”

“Learners must feel safe in the school environment and their safety is our priority.”

Lesufi appealed to members of the public who had more information on De Jager’s whereabouts to come forward.

“The situation is calm, under the circumstances. However, we will continue to monitor the situation.”

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed there was still no trace of De Jager.

“There have been no further developments in the case and police continue to investigate.”

Family members also told Rekord there had been no developments.

A family member said De Jager’s mother had her shoulder treated after it was injured during the scuffle with the kidnappers.

De Jager was reportedly snatched from the arms of her mother at the Kollegepark primary school by four men in a white Toyota Fortuner.

Anyone with more information was urged to contact the Vanderbijlpark police on 016-901-9000 or Missing Children SA on 072-647-7464.
