East residents warned of substation shutdown

The interruption period will be for 11 hours from 07:00 to 18:00.

Residents in the east of Pretoria have been warned about an emergency shut-down of the Highlands Substation on Tuesday next week.

According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the shutdown was necessitated by a need to carry out “essential maintenance” and repair work on the electricity network and components at the substation.

He said the interruption period will be for 11 hours from 07:00 to 18:00.

The following areas will be affected:

– Garsfontein
– Menlyn (excluding the shopping centre)
– Waterkloof Glen
– Waterkloof park
– Waterkloof Ridge
– Constantia Park
– Newlands
– Ashlea Gardens
– Maroelana
– Hazelwood
– Alphen Park

Mashigo said all residents affected by power failures should report them at customer care centres.

“Residents are urged to treat all network points as live at all times,” he said.
