Rietgat police officer wins award

Rietgat police social crime coordinator Sergeant Ntombizodwa Maphanga won the best visible policing award

Rietgat police social crime coordinator Sergeant Ntombizodwa Maphanga won the best visible policing award at the Tshwane district excellence awards ceremony at the Police Rondavel in Pretoria North on Friday.

Maphanga was nominated among 36 other police stations within the Tshwane district.

The excellence awards are aimed at encouraging hard-working employees of the Tshwane district to continue their sterling work of going beyond the call of duty.

Maphanga said she felt overwhelmed and she never thought the police would recognise her work.

“I feel like my work has been recognised and it feels good. I have been doing this for 17 years and this is the first award I have won,” said Maphanga.

Maphanga has also been nominated for the provincial visible policing employee of the year award, which will be decided on Friday at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.

Tshwane district commissioner Major General Daniel Mthombeni lauded the winner for selflessness in serving the community of Tshwane.

“I would like to commend the cream of the crop for their allegiance to the code of conduct and for their hard work in ensuring that the community is put first.”

Mthombeni encouraged the police not to rest on their laurels but to also consider furthering their studies to enhance their knowledge.
