Pretoria East residents had a chance to talk directly to city mayor Stevens Mokgalapa and his ward councillors at the Willows Methodist Church in Equestria.
This as residents of Ward 85 voiced their concerns about their respective suburbs at the meeting.
The ward includes Equestria, Wapadrand, Wilgers and parts of Faerie Glen.
“Residents contacted me saying the meeting was insightful because they could now understand the intricacies of managing a city,” said local ward councillor Jacqui Uys.
“Despite this, I still wish I could solve all their problems immediately. However, it will take time.”

Uys described the meeting as “generally positive”.
“There is already visible change arising from the meeting last night,” he said.
“I just drove past [the] Tshwane metro police removing street vendors selling wooden and metal ornaments on the corner of Lynnwood and Solomon Mahlangu roads.
“This corner also has a problem with littering, which we are in the process of mitigating.”
“Yesterday, an elderly community member complained about the constant chopping of trees in the vicinity.”

Uys said bollards would be placed on the corner to prevent waste removal trucks from parking there unlawfully.
“The bollards will be in place within two weeks,” she said.
