A Centurion teen came third place for his innovative contribution to the 2019 Envisionit Prize Water Harvesting.

Jared Jaleel Reddy (16) entered the nationwide competition that saw pupils creating projects meant to help with the conservation of water.

“The pupils had to create concepts and document their findings,” said Reddy’s mother Roxanne.

“Jared had to design and build a low cost, sustainable water-harvesting system.”

“The design had to be made using recyclable materials and had to be used by the local community to harvest water.”

The Uitsig High School pupil competed with others from across South Africa and secured the third place prize, a R200 000 bursary.

“He is really excited with what he has achieved.

“It is amazing when one considers he researched, designed and built his prototype by himself.”

Reddy currently captains the SpringBots, a South African high school robotics team that came second in the inaugural African Robotics Challenge at the University of Pretoria recently.
