NEWSFLASH: Cash collecting guards robbed at gunpoint at Centurion Mall

Police will implement a 72-hour activation plan as part of a manhunt for the armed robbers.

Police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of armed men who robbed security guards at Centurion Mall on Sunday morning.

The guards were collecting money at around 11:38 when the armed robbery took place.

As part of the manhunt, a 72-hour plan will see the police mobilise all resources in a bid to apprehend the robbers, according to police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe.

“The robbery happened as the security guards were busy loading bags of cash collected from various stores inside the mall into their cash van,” Mathe said.

“The armed men held the guards at gunpoint before forcing them into their own van.”

“They then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.”

Mathe said no shots were fired and no one was injured.

“The national police commissioner, Lieutenant General Khehla John Sithole, has instructed that the 72-hour activation plan be implemented immediately to help catch the armed robbers.”

Numerous attempts were made to get comment from Centurion Mall to no avail.
