More than hundred arrested in Pretoria operations

More than 100 people were arrested in the west of Pretoria and CBD in police operations at the weekend.

More than 100 people were arrested in the west of Pretoria and CBD in police operations at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said it was a joint-operation between Tshwane metro police and national and Gauteng traffic police to maintain law and order and curb illegal activities.

“A number of suspects were arrested for various offences including the possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, housebreaking and theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of suspected stolen properties and reckless and negligent driving.”

Huma said the arrest of 15 people for the illegal trade in drugs in the different policing areas confirmed the police’s zero-tolerance to crime.

“The illegal use and trade of drugs is condemned by police and we remain committed in cleaning up the streets and increasing high visibility,” she said.

The suspects were due to appear in Atteridgeville and Pretoria courts on Monday while others were released after paying their fines, Huma said.
