UPDATE: Changes to new Tshwane bus route network

Changes have been made to the planned linkage of the new Masfield Road to Rachel de Beer Street as part of the A Re Yeng inter-modal network upgrades.

Changes have been made to the planned linkage of the new Masfield Road to Rachel de Beer Street as part of the A Re Yeng inter-modal network upgrades.

“The traffic to and from Pretoria North – on Rachel de Beer Street going under the bridge – will only be switched into two single lanes from next Monday, 14 October,” ward councillor Yolanda Duvenhage said.

She said the lane conversion was delayed as the temporary cross-over at the pedestrian bridge needed to be constructed.

“This work will be completed during the course of the week.”

Rekord earlier reported the two-lane conversion was expected to last for up to three months after bus rapid transit team member Lloyd Moti announced the new phase of construction at a public meeting at Danie Malan Primary School.

He said the conversion was necessary to free up some space for the planned network.

Moti said the plan for the next five years for the city bus service was to build routes from Wonderboom station to Pretoria station with the construction of the next station, Hector Petersen, expected to commence next year, for completion by 2021.

The broader 15-year plan was to extend the network from Kopanong in Soshanguve to Atteridgeville via Akasia, Rachel de Beer or Gerrit Maritz, Paul Kruger or Mansfield, Pretoria station, city centre, Lynnwood, Mamelodi and Mahube Valley.

Earlier this year, the Tshwane metro launched a new A Re Yeng route to Denneboom bridge in Waltloo, Mamelodi.
