Local cash and carry turns 27, paints town red
Kit Kat Cash and Carry shares its rich history with the community by celebrating with them in the coming weeks.
It is time of celebration for Kit Kat Cash and Carry.
Not only is the cash and carry company nearing its milestone of almost three decades in business, it is also hosting three events in October, to celebrate its various stokvel clubs.
“The Kit Kat Group was started in a small corner shop in the Asiatic Bazaar in Marabastad,” said group chairman Ahmed Gani.
“It was started by my grandfather about 65 years ago, and from the age of 10, my brothers and I were helping our parents by working in the store.
“In 1992, the first Kit Kat Cash and Carry store was opened in Pretoria West and the flagship store followed seven years later.
“Two more cash and carry stores were opened – one in Silverton and the other in Kliptown.”
Gani said it soon became clear that not everyone could make the commute to the cash and carry stores which were not often accessible to those staying in the townships.
“In 2015, our very first express store was opened and today we have a total of 18.”
As a company driven by delivering cost saving on consumable goods, Kit Kat Cash and Carry celebrates its birthday annually and this year is no different.
The company is currently hosting its 27th birthday celebration up until 22 October.
Building on this, the company decided to invite various stokvels to participate in the celebratory discounts.
This offers patrons banking throughout the year at all stores with secure systems for money collections.
Kit Kat Cash and Carry will celebrate these clubs during three events held in the coming weeks.
Nabeel Gani, Kit Kat Group COO, said the company’s philosophy was rooted in giving customers the best shopping experience.

“We can be the most affordable supermarket out there but if we don’t offer the customer an enjoyable experience the price means nothing,” Nabeel said.
“In the coming years we want to have 200 supermarkets and 10 cash and carry stores but it is important to us to have stores where they are needed.”
Nabeel said the company also believed in empowering the communities in which they operate.
“Kit Kat Group has various feeding schemes, assists a range of charities and our Paint the Town Red project has gone a long way to enriching the communities and making a difference in the lives of the people in the areas where we work.”
The Kit Kat Stokvel event on 26 October is scheduled to start at 10:00 at the Heartfelt Arena in Thaba Tshwane.
