UPDATE: Kilnerpark water leak repaired

To the relief of residents, a massive water leak in Kilner Park has finally been fixed.

To the relief of residents, a massive water leak in Kilner Park has finally been fixed.

Since the beginning of last month, water has been flowing down Lynette Street caused by a pipe leaking.

“I am very grateful and relieved that the pipe could be repaired,” said local ward councillor Roelof Fourie.

“Except for the difficult place where the problem was, a special connector also had to be obtained from another region’s depot.”

Fourie said the maintenance backlog that has accumulated over two decades will cost the metro several billion rands to catch up.

“The fact that there were no new craftsmen and technical staff for many years also contributes to the situation that there were literally not enough hands to ‘shut all the holes’,” he said.

He said the first step for any water leak noticed is to report it to the metro’s call centre at 012-358-9999, toll-free at 080-111-1556 or email to waterleaks@tshwane.gov.za.

“The technicians who are available are dedicated officials who do everything in their power to repair water leaks as quickly as possible,” he said.

“My thanks and appreciation to everyone involved.”

Resident Ben Crous said he was grateful that the water leak was repaired.

His main concern was the spillage of water caused by the leak.

“The metro regularly warns us to use water sparingly and is quick to fine us if we exceed the limit or use too much water,” he said.
