NEWSFLASH: More than 200 scrap vehicles catch fire near Wallmansthal road

Tshwane Metro Police have been activated to monitor the N1 highway.

More than 200 scrap vehicles caught fire because of a veld fire near the Wallmansthal road near the N1 highway on Saturday.

Firefighters received a call notifying them of a fire in the area around 14:21, according to Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

“Tshwane emergency services are on scene fighting the fire and protecting nearby structures,” he said.

 Mabaso said the fire on all perimeters of the veld has been extinguished.

“The smoke is currently not affecting the N1. The fire is under control.”
