Christmas cheer heading to the north
Annual community project aims to reach the 'forgotten' folks.
Residents in the north can look forward to some Christmas cheer this festive season, as Pretoria’s favourite annual community project is set to visit Wolmer again this year.
A spokesperson for Best Care ambulance services Xander Loubser will again lead the project for the third year in a row.
Loubser told Rekord he was excited for the upcoming project but there was still a lot of work to be done and funds to be raised.
“The community Christmas project fleet will follow the same route as the previous years.”
Loubser said the only change about the routes, was the beginning and end of the route, which alternated every year.
“It is to give each area a chance to see the emergency vehicles lights and Christmas decorations in the dark.”
Loubser said the fleet would stop in each area for about 30 minutes, to spend time with the children handing out gifts, playing music (praise and worship) and taking photographs with the emergency personnel involved and of course who else than Father Christmas.

“We drive in a fleet of about seven emergency vehicles which are made up of Christmas decorations. We put on the emergency lights and sirens as we drive through the areas to spread Christmas cheer.”
The project serves 25 000 children and the “forgotten” elderly persons around Pretoria with about 3 000 handmade gift bags containing sweets and bibles per area.
Loubser said R35 000 had already been raised towards the projects that cost R125 000 each year.
With less than two months to go before the project kicks off, Loubser said he was not worried about the funds and they would make it work.
“Thank you to all the sponsors and committee who make the project possible for the children and elderly of Pretoria,” Loubser said.
