Ga-Rankuwa pageant winners to act as role models in community
Each winner will be joining Minding the Gap in promotional work and charity-based community work in their areas to uplift the youth.
The first Mr and Miss Ga-Rankuwa 2019 pageant recently took place in an attempt to inspire the youth of the area.
The aim was to shift their focus from substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and alcohol abuse to increase their self-confidence and enable them to unlock their full potential.
The initiative was founded by Tsietsi Mathibedi and Tshegofatso Molobi through the organisation Minding the Gap.
The winners who were crowned on Saturday were Mr Teen Ga-Rankuwa King Oarabile Molotjwa (18) and Miss Teen Ga-Rankuwa Queen Kamogelo Kaole (19).
Minding the Gap is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) in Ga-Rankuwa. The organisation was registered in 2018 with the goal of introducing hard work and excellence from a young age.
Events such as awards ceremonies, camping trips, beauty pageants, talent shows and spelling bee competitions among others are used to achieve this goal in the community.
“Minding the Gap will also be doing motivational tours and offering mentorship and academic tutorials to learners from primary school to high school,” Mathibedi told Rekord.
“We hope to help the youth of Ga-Rankuwa to reach their full potential, we want to empower them.
“We strive to take them off the streets, shift their focus and mindset from everyday bad habits to practices that enrich and promote their lives. We want to help and empower them to be responsible citizens of the country, academics and professionals.”

Another interesting category called Miss Thick was introduced in the pageant with the purpose of promoting body positivity among young girls.
“The theme of the pageant, which is ‘promoting beauty and brains through community development’, plays well into this category, as it’s important to have young girls know their worth and have them focus on their role in society while having loads of confidence.”
Each winner will be joining Minding the Gap in promotional work and charity-based community work in their areas to uplift the youth.
“We believe the winners will be great representatives of the Ga-Rankuwa community.

“We believe through them new programmes and initiatives will be activated and fresh ideas will be brought to life to take this initiative to the next level. Congratulations to the winners,” Mathibedi concluded.
