East residents to remain longer in the dark as repairs underway

A cable was damaged during construction on Wednesday, leading to widespread blackouts.

Parts of Pretoria east have been in the dark since Wednesday, after a cable was damaged during construction work.

And residents in areas including Brummeria, Lynnwood Manor and Lydiana were set to remain in the dark until repairs were done, hopefully, on Thursday afternoon.

Ward councillor Pieter van Heerden said an electricity cable was damaged by a contractor during work that was being done in the area.

“The electricians did try to back-feed it, but it could not handle the pressure,” he said.

“Today, they will have to repair it, which is a bit of a process.”

He could not give a specific time, when power was likely to be restored but said it was likely to be after noon.

He asked that residents be patient.
