A Koi fish, representing the Grade 8 learners of Hoërskool FH Odendaal was placed in the school pond recently.
This forms part of a new tradition at the school.
Principal Mr J.D Brummer said: “As these Grade 8 learners grow at the school – so will the Koi fish.
“The fish has been placed in a new pond with older and wiser fish and will be facing a lot of challenges and difficulties as a youngster – but eventually will be bigger and stronger like the other fish in the pond
The Koi fish in the Japanese culture is a symbol of adversity and strength of purpose, good luck, abundance and prosperity.
