Satellite police station opened in Hatfield
There would be two officers at the station, two in a vehicle and four on bicycle patrols during the day.
Tshwane metro police have launched a new satellite station, in partnership with other stakeholders, in Hatfield on Monday.
The station would have eight dedicated officers during a shift, according to Hatfield city improvement district (CID) CEO Lucas Luckoff.
There would be two officers at the station, two in a vehicle and four on bicycle patrols during the day.
“The officers cannot do their thing on bicycles at night so there will be two vehicles patrolling at night,” he said.
The station features an administrative office, briefing room and CCTV control room.
Luckoff said the go-ahead for the satellite station was given in August 2019, after a mayoral committee sitting.
The Fields – the home of the new station – is managed by City Property.

City Property managing director Jeffrey Wapnick said the station reinforced the metro police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, retail operators, students and visitors.
“We pride ourselves in working with all spheres of government,” he said.
“And we do our utmost as good citizens to make a noticeable improvement in the areas in which we operate.”
Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa said the launch was a “proud moment”.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of residents was the metro’s priority, he said.
“One of our strategic pillars from 2017 to 2021 is to become a city that keeps residents safe,” he said.
“This is not only a promise but a vow and a call to action.”
Mokgalapa – who admitted to having fallen victim to the crime during his years as a student at the University of Pretoria and resident of the area – said he wanted both students and residents alike to feel safe in the city they called home.
Hatfield hosts embassies, businesses and a sizeable student community.

“The student population boasts future leaders who deserve to go to school without fear of being robbed,” Mokgalapa said.
