Residents of Laudium rallied around to organise food, clothing and blankets for 20 families who lost their homes due to a fire.

On Sunday morning, a blaze swept through 15 shacks in Itereleng informal settlement, leaving scores of people homeless.

Laudium Disaster Management’s Ibraheem Dockrat thanked those who made contributions.

“With councillor Mahomed Essop, the disaster management team distributed food hampers, blankets and other essential items to those affected by the recent shack fires in Iterelang.”

He said the cause of the fire was unknown.

No injuries were reported.
