More water woes for Tshwane as two key reservoirs run dry
Rand Water has imposed restrictions due to consumers' failure to use water sparingly.

The city of Tshwane has been hit again by water restrictions as a result of a drastic drop in levels at the Suiderberg and Magalies reservoirs which supply water to many parts of Pretoria.
MMC for utility services Abel Tau said due to some consumers failing to heed calls to use water sparingly Rand Water had to restrict supply meters throughout the city.
Water will be restricted by 30-50%.
“In light of the restrictions that are underway, we implore the residents of the city and other high water consumers to change their behavioral patterns when coming to water use,” Tau said.
The following areas are likely to be without water:
- Capital Park
- Daspoort 319 JR
- Eloffsdal
- Gezina
- Les Marais
- Mayville
- Park Town Estate
- Rietfontein
- Roseville
- Transpark 639 JR
- Villieria
- Wonderboom 302 JR
- Wonderboom South
- Kopkrap 316-R
- Lady Selbourne x1
- Mountain View
- Pretoria North
- Suiderberg
- Zandfontein 317 JR
Tau said water should be expected to run through the taps soon.
“Residents are urged to exercise additional measures in reducing their water usage,” he said.
“Remain vigilant in curbing wastage of this scarce resource and to make saving water a part of their lifestyles by following the above-mentioned tips.”

A reminder on how to save water:
- Do not irrigate or water gardens until the reservoir levels have recovered.
- Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe to clean driveways or patios.
- Use greywater to water gardens and flush toilets.
- Report water leaks and burst pipes.
- Install water-saving devices.
- Where possible, install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators.
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
- Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or to wash the car.
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce evaporation.
- Take a quick shower rather than a bath.
- Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
