Atteridgeville locals left in the dark as substation explodes

“All primary substations feeding from the Kwaggasrand substation are back on.”

While power has been restored to some households affected by the Kwaggasrand substation fire, an explosion at the Atteridgeville substation B left some residents without power again.

According to ward 62 councillor Magdelena Mahwayi, a team has been dispatched to isolate the substation.

She said a big portion of her ward, which includes half of Atteridgeville to Madiba Street, was affected by the outage.

Mahwayi said it was not yet clear when power would be restored.

Early on Tuesday morning, a fire at the Kwaggasrand substation led to power outages in parts of the central, west and north of Pretoria.

“All primary substations feeding from the Kwaggasrand substation are back on,” said acting ward 3 councillor pastor James Ndlovu.

“Anyone experiencing power outages should use normal procedures to report them.”
