Cansa hosts Relay For Life charity event
"Every year we have the Cansa Relay For Life, this year it will be on 22 February."
CANSA hosted the Relay For Life charity event at Saint George’s Hotel on Saturday.
The event was a fundraiser for CANSA Pretoria, to help with research, education and patient support.
Actor and radio personality Lindie Strydom gave a motivational speech at the event and Gerda Jansen gave a testimonial about surviving cancer.
Event chairperson Elizbe Gildenhuis said this will be their 15th year of hosting the event and 29 countries were part of it.

“Every year we have the Relay For Life, which happens on 22 February. It takes place from 06:00.”
“Leading up to the event, we, as the committee, as well as the team members, raise funds so that we can archive a budget and for CANSA so that they can achieve their mission and objectives.”
Gildenhuis said they have various care homes around the country.
“In Pretoria we have the Nicus Lodge in Steve Biko Hospital for the children and their parents, the parents stay there while the kids get treatment.”

“We also have the Tipuana Care Home, which is in the CANSA Pretoria office. Those houses, for example, if you are from out of town and you need to get chemo or any therapy treatment for your cancer, you come and stay there, they will take you to your treatment and bring you back, you will also have a place to stay as well as a couple of free meals during the day.”
