North police encourage learners to stay away from crime
"The focus was on encouraging learners to refrain from drugs and alcohol as well as teaching them about the dangers of gangsterism."
Lessons about the abuse of children, bullying, gender-based offences and children’s rights took centre stage during a talk at Vukosi Primary School in Soshanguve on Monday.
The talk was part of encouraging the learners to avoid being on the wrong side of the law and to rather focus on education and becoming better adults.
Captain Stephens Maluleka said as part of the safer schools project, the Rietgat police urged educators not to wait until learners committed the most heinous of crimes but to inform the police as soon as crime reared its ugly head.
“The station went on in partnership with the CPF and the Lebogang Foundation to speak to the secondary school learners at Thakgalang Secondary School in block P.
“This time around the focus was on encouraging learners to refrain from doing drugs and alcohol as well as teaching them about the dangers of gangsterism. In addition, general crime tips were shared with the teenagers so that they could be disciplined and positively influence their peers outside the school’s premises.”
Station commander Colonel Stephina Nkosi lauded the effort to nip crime in the bud and promised to support the initiative.
