Home Affairs setting up new bank branches in Pretoria to roll out ID's and Passports
The department of home affairs has announced that it would roll out smart ID and passport facilities to three more bank branches in Pretoria.
Pretoria residents who need to renew their IDs or passports can apply for them and collect them at the local banks.
Absa Menlyn Maine, Absa Woodlands and Standard Bank Jubilee mall in Hammanskraal were among the new branches in the country to be equipped.
Standard Bank spokesperson Ross Linstrom said the branch at Jubilee mall, Hammanskraal opened on Monday.
He said their customers appreciated the additional services that came with the e-home affairs facilities.

“Our customers have welcomed smart IDs and passports collection services offered by the bank in partnership with the department. We have further enhanced our payment system for our customers. They can now pay for the ID and passport from their accounts,’’ Linstrom said.
Absa Menlyn Maine and Woodlands branches were still waiting for the department to install the facilities.
Home affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza said the department was working on installing the equipment at the two branches but could not confirm when it would be done.
“Through our partnership with the banks we have been able to offer essential services to more people. The service also helps banks not to fall victim to fraud as there are less chance for criminals to duplicate identities,’’ Qoza said.
Absa spokesperson Ingé Lamprecht concurred with the department that the equipment installation was in progress at Absa Menlyn Maine and Woodlands and should be completed during the course of the year.
“Customers are embracing the service. Although only four branches are currently operational, the branches process roughly 1 000 smart card applications a month and around 1 200 passport applications on average,” said Lamprecht.

The three new bank branches to offer e-home affairs services join five already existing branches in Pretoria.
Absa Centurion Lifestyle, FNB Centurion Lifestyle, FNB Menlyn, Nedbank Arcadia Pretoria and Standard Bank Centurion.
Home affairs allows people to submit applications, upload supporting documents and make payments on their website before collection at the banks.
