Local organisation donates full school uniforms

“We have a challenge of learners who don’t have school uniforms,”

A local organisation wants to make sure when school children return to school in April, they will do so in full uniforms.

This after the Community First Foundation organisation spent close to R180 000 on school uniforms and wheelchairs for Mamelodi schools this week.

The generous donations were made by the Community First Foundation organisation, in partnership with Foreign National tuck shop owners across Mamelodi, to a total of 130 pupils across Mamelodi schools.

Community First Foundation spokesperson Patric Matlhobogoane said they also donated two wheelchairs to Mamelodi Emmeleng Association for people with disabilities as well as sports kits to Mamelodi SOS.

The NPO held the event at the Mamelodi soft pitch sportsground in Mamelodi West.

Learners were treated with lunch and live music.

Community First consists of 20 young local business people and was formed in 2018.

“They formed the organisation because when they drove around Mamelodi, they saw that many young learners were going to school without proper school uniforms. It made them very sad that many business people spends their money at clubs over the weekend, instead of helping the country’s future leaders.”

Matlhobogoane said the school identified the learners who needed school uniforms.

He said the school uniforms will motivate learners to come to school every day and not bunk classes.

“We are proud to put a smile on their faces,” said Matlhobogoane.

He added that Community First Foundation also helped families which didn’t have money to bury their loved ones by helping with

burial arrangements.

Mariam Mona, from the Mamelodi Emmeleng Association for people with disabilities, said she was very happy they received two brand new wheelchairs.

The wheelchairs would be used by learners at the workshop.

“God bless them to continue to do good things for others,” she said.

Karabo Maile (8), from Bohlabatsatsi primary school, said she did not have any school uniforms.

“Every time I go to school I have to wear jeans and a shirt, but now I have a brand new full school uniform, which I will wear with pride and take care of.”

Teacher Thuli Motshegoa said she was “very happy” that Community First decided to donate school uniforms.

“We have learners who don’t have school uniforms because most of them come from poor backgrounds.”

Motshega said the uniforms will encourage learners to come to school every day.

Community First also donated school uniforms to Ndima, Zamuthuthuko, Bohlabatsatsi, Agnes Chidi, Mthunzini, Shirinda, Tshimollo and F. F. Ribeiro primary schools.
