UPDATE: Laerskool Wierdapark learner recovering well
The learner has not shown any further symptoms and is recovering well
The Principal of Laerskool Wierdapark, Louis Dekker, said the grade R learner who tested positive for the Covid-19 (coronavirus) last week, did not participate in any extra-mural activities at the school.
Rekord received an inquiry whether the learner played in a Bulletjie rugby social day on 14 March at a local school in Pretoria.
Dekker said the learner was only at school until Friday, 13 March.
The Department of Education informed the governing body of the school on Thursday morning that one of their learners had tested positive.
“The chances that the child might have infected other learners are slim.”
Dekker added that the child had no siblings and the family was in isolation.
“The learner has not shown any further symptoms and is recovering well.
“The Laerskool Wierdapark governing body and management regard the matter in a very serious but cautious light. If we are informed of any Covid-19 cases, we will protect the individual’s identity.”
